There is a great saying, that entertainers show people what they want to see whilst artists show people what they need to see. The former offers us a comforting distraction from what at times is undoubtedly an intolerable reality — both internally and externally — whilst the latter offers us disconcerting guidance to travel deeper internally, invariably questioning our understanding of objective reality and why it needs to be confronted and challenged.
My name is Gavin Nascimento, and I’ve been using digital media to communicate my own artistic expression since 2010 with the intention of empowering people individually and collectively. Without getting into my whole life story, which is pretty crazy and longwinded to say the least, what prompted my eventual decision to start this digital journey, and now this website, was a dream that corresponded to the film the Matrix.
In my dream, not only was I fully aware that I was indeed dreaming, but I was also able to change the landscape in whatever way I pleased. As a result, I decided to see if I could take it one step further and create the infamous falling effect that is so common in dreams, which generally culminates in hitting the ground and simultaneously waking up. My goal, however, was to defy this well-known “rule” that dominates the dreamworld and I successfully did. I then made the conscious decision to wake myself up.
Although this experience was quite profound in and of itself, what struck me as being especially strange was the Matrix like green digital landscape that defined the dream. I found this very unusual because I had not seen the film since it originally came out in theaters when I was about 14 years old and it completely went over my head at the time. I thought it was about clubbing and taking pills or something like that😅
Inspired by the dream and believing to this day that the dream world can contain esoteric messages, I decided to watch the Matrix again, and everything conspicuously clicked and was significantly synchronistic. Not only did this esoteric experience open me up to another dimension of the mystery of this strange thing we call life, but it made me realize that movies are not simply about superficial entertainment, they represent a sophisticated form of communication and messaging. One that is in fact stringently controlled by the proverbial Matrix, but Artists do occasionally breakthrough and in doing so transcend the minds of the audience in such a way that if facilitates our collective evolution.
My personal interests are broad, and include philosophy, psychology, political science, anthropology, history, peaceful parenting, semantics, art and far beyond. My aim is to incorporate these interests into my film analysis in such a way that I can empower and inform my audience in a positive way.
If you are someone who loves contemplating the hidden allegories and deeper meaning behind movies, this website will likely be for you. Just please remember, these are my personal perceptions and internal interpretations, which are not intended to be authoritative but instead to be thought-provoking and complimentary. I welcome other interpretations and perspectives that ultimately help us collectively illuminate and navigate the mystery of life.
With all that said, feel free to reach out to me directly through the contact form on the website if you have any questions of concerns.
